Artists, Science and Birthdays

We have really enjoyed our time with our Live Oak students and their families this year! We had a lot of fun getting to know each child and their unique personality. Thank you for trusting us with your children, we know how precious they are to you!

Also a special thank you to our room parents, Lucca’s mom, Erika, and Arlo’s mom, Jill. Thanks so much for all your help through this year!

Art unit

These last weeks we have been exploring and exposing the children to artists and their work. We introduced them to Eric Carle, Vincent Van Gogh, and Georgia O’Keeffe. They learned about their life and their art. They really enjoyed replicating the different artists’ work, and creating their own work in the same art style.

Art with Julianne

In a happy coincidence, Julianne brought a flower art project during the week we were learning about Georgia O’Keeffe. She brought fresh flowers and leaves, and showed the children how to do flower pressing using paper and smooth river rocks. The children had a lot of fun working with natural materials.

Geography in the sandbox

Our last Geography lesson was the Chain of Lakes. They had a blast building a chain of lakes in the sandbox by digging holes and filling them with water.

Parents visiting Live Oak

Verena, Jojo’s mom, spent part of the morning in our classroom. Jojo was an excellent host and showed her many works. We know they both had a great time together. Also, Holda, Lucas’s mom brought in a great science experiment. Through physical movement, she explained how molecules react in cold and hot water. She demonstrated with water of different temperatures and food coloring. The children loved watching the different reactions.

Cooking project

Our last cooking project was molletes, a Mexican snack eaten for breakfast or dinner. The cooks were Jojo, Arlo, Aliyah, and Cy, and they did a great job. The molletes were well liked by everyone.
