Fish Unit
Before presenting the Fish unit, we introduced a Montessori lesson where the children sorted vertebrate and invertebrate animals. They even had the opportunity to see and touch two real invertebrate animals; a big shrimp, a squid, and a grasshopper we found in our garden. They loved this sensorial experience! Also, the older group has been exploring vertebrates and invertebrates through various classroom activities, including books, posters, items from the movable alphabet, sensory bins, and land and water works. It was a pleasure to hear comments like “Octopuses don’t have bones”, “Chickens have bones”, “Ants don’t have bones”.
We began the Fish Unit reading the book “About Fish”, which gives a simple and concrete description of this vertebrate. As the children continued to show interest and curiosity about fish, we provided them with a variety of materials such as books, puzzles, matching sets, and art projects.
Fairies
The fairyland table is still being used and visited by our students. They create stories and characters with a classmate or on their own.
Geography
Our next land and water form was the lake. As we did with the island, we introduced the concept in a circle lesson and then we took the younger group to the sandbox to make a lake. During playing time, the children surprised us with a river they made on their own initiative! It was so great to see them collaborating and having fun together.

Music:
We had our first music circle with Aaron, our new great music teacher. The children were so excited! They had so much fun singing, dancing, and playing instruments together.
Aguas Frescas
The teachers prepared three different aguas frescas: jamaica, piña, and horchata that the children enjoyed during the hottest days. They had the opportunity to watch the process (soaking, blending and draining the rice and cinnamon) and helped make horchata.
