To help the children develop a sense of identity, we took individual photos and interviewed each child to learn more about them. Together, we observed the photos, noticing both the similarities and differences in our appearances, while also recognizing the shared emotions we all experience. We explored each child’s likes and dislikes, emphasizing how unique preferences shape who they are. Additionally, we discussed other aspects of identity, such as cultural backgrounds, languages, and family structures, highlighting the richness of diversity within the group.

By asking thought-provoking questions like “What if a rainbow had only one color instead of seven?” or “What if there was only one kind of food in the world?” we introduced the concept of diversity in a way that the children could easily relate to. We talked about how our differences make the world more beautiful and interesting, leading us to reflect on the importance of respecting and showing kindness to one another, as we are all human beings.

We also emphasized that working together as a team helps make the world a better place. To bring this concept to life, each child painted on a small styrofoam piece in their own unique style, which we then combined into a larger collaborative artwork—turning it into a true masterpiece. This helped the children visually experience how individual uniqueness contributes to a collective whole. We also baked a cake, symbolizing how different ingredients come together to create something wonderful—just like diversity enriches the world.
