Hello Blackberry Parenting Adults,

We have had some time to settle into our routines and build a strong community. We work on talking about our feelings, about conflict resolution, working through tricky moments, and doing work we deem “too hard.”

I’ve watched many Blackberrians in the last few weeks earn their first 10/10 on their spelling tests. I’ve watched some crumble and be way to hard on themselves. I want them to understand that the goal is never perfection it’s always gaining skills to be a better writer and reader. We work hard to normalize mistakes, and it being a very natural part of our learning journey.

In the past couple weeks we’ve worked on the following sounds:

  • eigh, igh, kn, ea
  • oo, mb, gn
  • the many sounds of -ed

The vocab we have worked on has been:

  • avoid, insist, famous, predict
  • include, discard, amuse. drowsy

In math we are working on interpreting data, creating our own graphs, and collecting our own data.

In science we have begun our work on the animal kingdoms. We talked about mammals, insects, birds, amphibians, fish, and reptiles.

This week we had the opportunity to watch the egg drop put on by the middle school. It was so great to watch science in action and what experiments can look like.

The temperatures will only get warmer please make sure that your Blackberrian has a water bottle to stay hydrated.

On Wednesday October 2, we will watch The Wild Robot at the AMC theater in Emeryville. We are over the moon about our first field trip and want to thank our parent volunteers and chaperones.

Here are some pictures of the last few weeks!

Best,

Leslie
