Observing Flowers, Feathers and Eggs

With all the rain and sun we’ve had lately, we have been exploring the first signs of spring: flowers that grew from bulbs and birds. We’ve been practicing with our magnifying glasses to look closely at daffodils and various bird feathers. We’re making observations about their color, size, and shape individually and relative to each other. Our tray activities are full of eggs and we used water and hand rakes to fill our sensory bin with coconut husk soil.

Exploring Familiar Materials in New Ways

With more than half of the school year gone, Caterpillar friends have interacted with lots of different materials. Now familiar materials are being presented in new ways. Coupled with shifts in developmental growth and new friends, it is leading to new fun and interesting play. What happens when silks, boxes, and climbing triangles are put together? Or magnet tiles are put on a vertical light board? I wonder what can be created if the paper is wet BEFORE watercolor paint is added… How else can swings be used? What happens when a friend starts to build vertically with hallow blocks?

Kindness Festival

We were happy to celebrate our rain check ECC-wide Kindness Festival on Thursday. Emily Butterfly started us off with a beautiful and engaging storytelling and puppet performance. Everyone was captivated. Then we got to enjoy different kindness activities like washing the bikes so they’re clean for everyone to use, decorating kindness buckets inspired by Have You Filled A Bucket Today?, dancing with scarves to kindness and friendship songs and drawing emojis to gift to friends.
