It has been a frenzied couple of weeks leading up to student-led conferences happening this week, and Mason and I have made the most of this time in math and advisory.
8th grade students had the opportunity to partner with one or two 6th grade students in preparing for conferences. Preparing for this event can be somewhat stressful for 6th graders who are doing this for the first time so the 8th graders were happy to support them. They collaborated to give feedback, help with editing, and practice.
Apart from these preparations, 6th and 7th grade have been diligently working to better understand how to calculate percent of a number (6) as well as multiple step percent problems (7). The latter includes being able to determine the total cost of a meal including tax and tip.
8th grade has been analyzing and applying the various uses of the Pythagorean theorem. It was quite intimidating initially, but that feeling has diminished as students began to consistently apply the theorem accurately.
