Dear Blackberry families,
We’d like to share some of the big happenings in our classroom and share some fun photo galleries of the class!
Our mathematicians have been working with the number line strategy to add and subtract single and double digit numbers. We practiced using the number line to compare our ages to members of our family and communities. We also compared our heights, using subtraction to find the difference between two numbers. The hops on the number line show us the difference when comparing two numbers.
In our social emotional learning we have played out many real life scenarios using doll stories. We use characters to represent situations that arise in our community, so that we can safely discuss conflicts and possible solutions as a group.
As writers we have delved into writing poetry. We practice seeing the world with the poets’ eyes, with fresh insight and imagination. We also listened to the music and rhythm of our words and considered line breaks. Afterwards, we practiced reading our poetry aloud, with feeling and expression to match the meaning of our words.
We also enjoyed theater class with guest teachers from the Berkeley Children’s theater. We used our bodies and voices to create scenes and vignettes from the book “On the Day You Begin.”
We also wanted to give you all a few upcoming date reminders:
- Sunday April 16 Day of Service & Spring Festival! Join us for a fun-filled day of stewardship at Strawberry Creek Park, followed by delicious food, exciting activities, and community engagement.
- TBS Block Party, Saturday May 6 – RSVP! No fee to attend! This will help us get a more accurate headcount for food and drinks.
- Day at the Park May 21 – Codornices park
- Upcoming field trips:
