Parenting Adults,

The last day of school was the weepiest day in Blackberry history. Our friends were really going through some big feelings and nothing could’ve prepared me for it. I was deeply impressed by their ability to communicate what they were feeling and just kind of sit with it. There was no need to hide.

Leading up to the last day of school as a community we had experienced so much joy. We packed in our last few birthday circles and got to sit through some of the most beautiful sharing of memories, and how many times we giggled our way through the naughtiest thing everyone had ever done. We laughed a lot this week.

We also sang a lot this week. We presented the idea of karaoke not really knowing how it would go. We asked them to think of a song that they would love to sing loudly in front of everyone. Oh did they deliver. A lot of friends said yes, a lot of friends said no thanks. They bravely stood up in front of the class and gave it their all and it was so fun to witness.

Our spelling bee prompted everyone to apply all the phonics rules they’d been learning throughout the year. We were impressed by their willingness to give it a go. They were proud of each other and made sure that they were always cheering each other on.

The beach day was perfect. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. We really appreciate every driver and chaperone for being there with us. Your children continue to claim it as the best day ever and it really was.

We hope you all have a fantastic summer, and if your journey takes you away from us right now we wish you well. We delight in being able to experience your children’s love of learning and commitment to fight for equity. We got to catch a glimpse of the type of changemaker they will be. We will always be rooting for them.
