Hello Blackberry Families!
We’ve had another great week. This was a short, 4 day week. It has started to feel a bit chillier in the mornings and still warm in the afternoon. Please remind students to bring water to drink and be mindful of the temperature changes! Remind them they can always add or remove a layer and that it is important to listen to our bodies.
We’ve had a chance to journal about our long weekend. Sharing responses from our long weekend gave us an opportunity to learn more about each other and learn more about the things we do and the places we go to with our families.
We’ve practiced more on our 4 vocabulary words: gigantic, gentle, wonder, expensive. We’ve had practice writing them, using them in sentences, and trying to decipher when we can use these words. We will continue working on these words!
For Art, students and Julianne were able to finish the tie dye shirts! Students were excited to finish this project and see the end results! Students also began an activity named, Zentagle! Here, students began drawing out doodles and squiggly lines.
During math, we introduced Geoboards! We were able to create geometric shapes using rubber bands. First, students created these 6 geometric shapes: trapezoid, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, & rhombus. Then we were able to create them all on the geoboard and then free create. Students were excited to share their creations with each other. We also used Pattern Blocks this week, to create other geometric shapes, while collaging what they made onto another piece of paper!
To wrap up Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15) students participated in a Baile Folkórico activity! Listening to traditional music, wearing traditional dresses/fabrics, and learning dancing steps was a fun way for everyone to celebrate the rich cultures of Latino America!
A fun activity for literacy we did was paring up into groups of two, and each student was able to create silly sentences. This helped students to be flexible with pairing up with a new student, being able to socialize/work together, while helping each other.
We celebrated a Birthday Circle for Éamon’s birthday (which was the 12th of October). Éamon and his parents shared a favorite book, family photos, and a snack. The class sang Happy Birthday and asked questions like what his favorite color, favorite food, favorite place visited. Éamon then was able to “jump” into his new year!
Lastly we wanted to say that so much happens in our world that we have no control over. At times we want to shield our children from what is going on. There are also times where we want to talk to them. The most important thing you can do is hold space for your child’s thoughts and feelings. The Friday Bulletin this week will have resources about how to talk to your child about what is going on in our world. As always we are here to support you in any way we can.
Gracias y Saludos,
Mark and Leslie
