Hello Blackberry Families,
We had such a fun and amazing day celebrating the 100th day of school! We are so happy and grateful for being a part of our community and classroom! Students were so excited and proud to show off their 100 days of school projects. We had many fun activities such as the 100 day challenges, creating a 100 day monster, and trying to write words and numbers in 100 seconds.
We have been doing a fun spelling game for our morning message to start off our day! Each student has really done an amazing job to creatively find ways to spell words! For Phonics, we have focused on the the long A. The letter A will say its name when it follows a vowel-consonant-e (VCe) pattern. The E is stays silent, and it makes the A say its name. Some examples are: game, gate, bake, plane, etc. We have also completed a fun collaborating activity focusing on inference, getting ideas or conclusions based on evidence and context clues. Students were read a story, then were given 3 prompts of why they think the character did certain things based on what has previously happened in the story. After this example, students were then put into pairs and were given a short story. Students then had to draw a picture and write something about the character in the story and how you knew that was happening. Everyone did a great and unique job of illustrating the context of the story and providing assumptions of what would happen next.
We want to give a huge thank you to Mona Bisseret for visiting the Blackberry classroom and giving everyone a powerful presentation about Black History Month. She spoke about the past and future of African Americans in this country, the importance of diversity, and justice.
Please let us know if you also would like to visit our classroom and speak/present to the students!
In Science, we have been learning all about the 7 habitats. From the climate, physical locations, and which animal belongs to each. Students really have been loving this topic and have been having intriguing discussions about each habitat. It is very beautiful to listen to each child’s contribution to the discussions. This will ultimately lead to a bigger science project and our field trip to the zoo.
