Hi Blackberry Parenting Adults,
This week we have been really busy and really sick! Many of our friends have had the cold lately, and this is a good reminder to wear a mask when feeling even a tickle or a cough and to wash our hands regularly.
We have dropped sketchbook siesta from our schedule and it was tricky. We have now started DEAR, drop everything and read, it is happens right after lunch and everyone reads books they’ve chosen from their book box. They chose a chapter book, a graphic novel, and a but just for fun. We are trying to grow our stamina for independent reading. Below is the poster Reina and Sam worked together on to remind everyone what DEAR is.
In phonics we are working on the “Schwa” sounds. We say that other vowels borrow the /uh/ or /ih/ sounds in certain words. Below is an example.
In Math we have been working on measurement, and our weekly math puzzle. This week we had to check our green bean measurements and also do a jigsaw maze puzzle. These math puzzles have really built our resiliency and our abilities to understand that we are capable of doing hard things. We circle back to the growth mindset and how we may not be able to do things YET. See the attached results.
After discussing the wildfires in LA having a unit on water seemed like a logical next step. We will talk about the water cycle, states of matter, and how all livings use and depend on water. Here’s how we started:
