Hi Blackberry Parenting Adults,
Sign ups for conferences have gone out. We allot one slot per child so plan accordingly. This will be a good time to bring any questions or wonderings you may have about how it is going.
We’ve had a busy week back. We took a spelling inventory, practice our handwriting, and played a phonics game. We began a new informative writing project that is an all about me book about our friend. First we will interview them and then use that information to create a piece of writing, and then an all about book.
In math we have been practicing addition on a number line. We can may jumps of a combination of numbers and then get to a specific target number. For example the target number is 97. They can use jumps of 25,5,1 but cannot use only jumps of one number. This weeks number puzzle was building skyscrapers. Ask your mathematician how it went.
We’ve been using the rest of our time to learn about Black changemakers and innovators. We learned about Brad Lomax, a member of the Black Panther party who fought for civil rights and disability rights for all. He developed multiple sclerosis and used a wheelchair. Our challenge was to create a park that was accessible for all. We showed this video of an accessible park and then created our own.We also talked about George Crum, who created the potato chip, and came up with our own unique flavor of chips.
Best,
Leslie
