Hello Blackberry Families,
We’ve had a busy week and we are also expecting an even busier week for the end of October!
The annual UAC Recycled Runway Halloween Event takes place the afternoon of Monday, October 30th. UAC buddy groups (intentionally combined groups of older and younger students) will be working together to construct costumes out of recycled materials such as cardboard, bubble wrap, and anything else that’s safe, hygienic, and contributed by our community.
We would like to remind everyone next Tuesday the 31st of October, will be the Halloween Parade and our Blackberry Halloween Party. The parade will take place from 8:45 am-9:15 am and the party will immediately follow until 10:45 am. Students are welcome to wear their costumes that day, as well as bring a spare change of clothes for after the party. All are welcome! Feel free to bring anyone to join! We also invite parenting adults and guests to come in costume as well!!!
As a reminder here are our costume guidelines that we will be very firm on:
- No masks that hide the entire face
- Nothing scary
- No blood
- No scary face paint
- No weapons
Wednesday morning, November 1 from 9-9:20am for an on-campus procession and celebration of learning about Dia de los Muertos. Feel free to bring any photos or interview question packets next week to accompany the altar/ofrenda! Thank you!
We have had many new learning experiences for Math this week. We have done a few activities using popsicle sticks for counting by 10s, creating bundles, all while being paired into groups. We will be exploring new lessons for 1st graders and 2nd graders within the next upcoming weeks.
In the Spanish class and Art class, students have continued creating things inspired by the altar/ofrenda for Dia de Los Muertos. Students have made their own papel picado and their own cempoalxóchitl flowers. Thank you to those who have filled out and broughten the Dia de Los Muertos interview question packets. If you have not, you can still bring them in next week as well 🙂
Science class we have begun talking about tsunamis! Students were able to learn a little about the extremities of them.
Today, we had a pumpkin carving party outside! We got our hands dirty, hollowed out pumpkins, and also collected the seeds. Students had a blast as we gave it our best shot at carving these large pumpkins!
Gracias y Saludos,
Leslie and Mark
