- If you ever have something to tell us that you think will impact your child’s day at school i.e. didn’t sleep well, has a parenting adult out of town, friend/relative visiting, you can write it on the clipboard outside the door titled “We want teachers to know…” This helps so that all teachers can be in the know 🙂

Circles & Dots
We dove deep into circles and dots beginning with our light area transforming into a dot installation inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s concept of self-obliteration, obliteration and mirror rooms, and dot pumpkins. Caterpillars were invited to obliterate the rocking chair with dot stickers and without prompting, began to put stickers on themselves and each other.
We continued our exploration through many process art activities using stamping methods with recycled materials and practicing using white glue. In doing so we created multiple layered collaborative murals that will be hung up and repurposed for other projects. We also incorporated circles/dots into our activity to satisfy and scaffold our play urge of “smash” by filling round cotton balls with watercolor and smashing them with hammers.
Drum roll please…May we introduce you to Mau Mouse!
After weeks of collecting names and voting, we had a run off vote between the top two names, Oreo and Mau Mouse, with Mau Mouse winning by 2 votes. In honor of Mau Mouse, we have been reading lots of books featuring mice including: The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear, Good News, Bad News, If you Plant a Seed, Mouse Paint, Mouse Shapes, and Mouse Was Mad. Throughout many these stories, we have encountered tension building and drama, which had Caterpillar friends feeling excited, a little scared, worried, empowered, and relieved. We noticed how different people felt different things and thought about how to be sensitive to people’s varying needs in moments of uncomfortable feelings. We also did an art project inspired by one of our favorite mouse books, Mouse Paint, exploring some color theory while we were at it.
