Happy fall, Cedar families! It was great to see many of you at Back to School Night last week. We hope you found the information useful and got an idea of what your child will be learning this year. The following is what we have focused on these past two weeks.
Apple Theme
We started by introducing five kinds of apples (Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Gala, and Fuji ) to the class. Children watched closely and explored them with their senses. We learned about the apple’s life cycle and studied the parts of an apple. We dissected one and learned its parts, including leaf, stem, skin, flesh, core, and seeds. We read books about apples; children also enjoyed some other apple-related activities like sorting, matching, and counting in the classroom. Finally, we peeled and cut many apples and dehydrated them to make yummy apple chips.
Sound of the Week–“a”
We started the Sound of the Week! We began with “a”, and focused on how it sounds. We presented some objects like apple, ant, and anchor, and we played “I Spy”. For the project, children made an apple crisp with Noushin. They also made apple trees using a bath sponge to stamp.
Art with Julianne
Children made their own wheel of colors with watercolors. Please enjoy the photos here taken by Julianne.
