Last week we had our first earthquake drill. It was stunning to see how quickly children learned and acted accordingly. We then quietly walked out to the yard to meet the assembly. Little children can sense the seriousness and quietness of the atmosphere remarkably well: quite a lesson!

The followings are the studies we have learned in the past two weeks.

Living vs. Non-Living

Children learned the characteristics of living and non-living things and, based on that knowledge, they went around identifying and labeling their environment, including outdoors. This is the foundation for future lessons on Botany and Zoology, and to recognize and appreciate our interconnection with nature and Culture.

Mehregan Celebration

The Mehregan Festival is an ancient Persian festival of autumn, a celebration of joy, harvest, and abundance which includes love, kindness, and friendship. Noushin set various items on the table and explained what they stand for.  For example, the mirror, candles, and sunflowers symbolize light or the sun; seasonal fruits like apples and pomegranates are a must to show the sincerity of farmers toward the kings during harvest time back in the ancient time.

Sound of the Week—“b”

For the sound of “b”, we made boats. Children glued pieces of paper together to make their boats and then decorated them with some vehicle stickers. We also made bee masks. What a good practice learning to cut!

Birthday Celebration

We had a birthday circle for Miles.  He is three years old now! We also sang the happy birthday song to Grandpa Clyde last Thursday; it was his birthday when he was here for a sing-along.
