Hello Cedar families, it was great fun and a delight to have you join our Halloween celebration last week!  We also appreciated our time together virtually or in person sharing our observations and insights about children both at home and in school. With a wider picture and better understanding, we can both, parents and teachers, provide a more attuned education that serves better your children.

Following is the focus of our study for the second half of October.

World Continents/Map

We’ve started to introduce Geography using a Montessori sandpaper earth globe. This helped kids to learn about the earth’s three key elements: land, water, and air. Then we used the colored continent globe to introduce the 7 continents. Before moving to the 2D world map puzzle we taught how a ball of play dough becomes two parts when cut in half. The words “sphere” and “hemisphere” were introduced.  Starting next month we will study each of the continents. Our focus will be on political geography, extending children’s views about people, and recognizing the basic needs that all people share while appreciating the diversity of different cultures.

Halloween Theme

Halloween is fun! To celebrate it and to let children soak in the atmosphere, we prepared many Halloween-related activities, especially on Practical Life and Art shelves. Children also painted their own jack-o-lantern faces and made two silly ghosts collaboratively. Their engaged faces and joyful smiles showed us that learning should be fun 🙂

Sound of the Week—“c”

For “c”, we made cars and crabs with paper plates.
