Our theme in the past two weeks has been more Halloween-related activities. We made shaving cream prints to have fun and have a messy feeling. We painted Jack-o-Lanterns with different facial expressions. Inspired by Eric Carle’s-The Very Hungry Spider we made spider webs with glue, salt and liquid watercolors- exploring capillary action. And what is Halloween with out your friendly squeegied ghosts….

Other Projects

Though October is usually dominated by the Halloween theme – we took some quiet time to gather around a hoop and create our Fall Wreath for the classroom, with things found and picked from the garden.

In connection to the sound of the week ‘b‘ we made butter from heavy whipping – shaking, shaking and more shaking…. and then enjoyed our butter with bread.

Science Experiments

Nico’s parents, Ash and Aaron, brought in exciting science experiments for the class again this year. We explored the concept of density and how it affects whether objects float or sink. We discovered that an egg sinks in freshwater because it’s denser than the water, but it floats in saltwater due to the added density. Finally, we combined both saltwater and freshwater, observing that adding more freshwater caused the egg to sink, while more saltwater helped it float. The second experiment focused on electricity. We rubbed balloons on our heads and observed how this created static electricity, causing the balloons to attract the confetti paper.
