Day two felt more ordinary: students read, wrote, went to math class, participated in a science lesson, and met some of their specialist teachers. They had recess in Strawberry Park for the first time, and we went over the guidelines for safe park use. We played a number of games, including the giddy “Yeehaw!” and sang a few of my favorite rounds.
Homework tonight is to finish rewriting the final draft of the short personal narrative they started yesterday. We’ll read them in an “Author’s Chair” celebration tomorrow. Some students finished at school today and do not have to do this tonight.
4th graders are to practice their MADS cards, and 5th graders have some magic squares and triangles to try their hand at. Don’t spend more than twenty minutes on those, by the way, and that should be a general rule of thumb for math homework.
