A timeline activity gave students a chronological framework for the Oregon Trail. They sketched simple drawings of important events from the invention of the cotton gin in 1793 to the War of 1812 to the Indian Removal Act of 1830 and the great cholera epidemic of the 1830s. They read a short article on why people moved west, and we discussed the “push” and “pull” factors that made people want to move.
Homework:
Math: 4th graders and 5th graders have a packet that’s due of Friday
Reading: 20 minutes and make a connection on the weekly planner
Typing or cursive practice: please use this time to type your two letters for the Chanterelle or cursive write in your Oregon Trail journal (perhaps you could write about the push and pull factors we talked about today)
