This is our last week of rehearsal before the intense two days leading up to our performance next Tuesday at 6 pm. A big shout out to Mary Coleman for sharing her expertise on voice and acting this afternoon.

We sail on Wednesday, so please pack a snack and lunch, and read up on the details in the email that went out last Friday to Cerrito families. We turned the classroom into a sailboat this afternoon, practicing sailing terms and singing a sea shanty. We will practice knots tomorrow and get further oriented for our exciting voyage on the Pegasus. A few more students need to hand in permission forms, so please ask your child if they handed theirs in.

Students will also begin engineering this week, a unit that we taught in Cerrito for the first time two years ago. We will build catapults and solar ovens over the next few weeks, and we’ll start this week by making contraptions to rescue a ball that’s out of reach. Students love this kind of tinkering; it’s the revising and rebuilding when an invention doesn’t work that we find often takes some scaffolding. They also will need support effectively communicating with group members; we are really trying to simulate what it’s like working on a team toward a common goal.

Lastly, here’s a message from Julianne about Walkathon t-shirts this year (headline: you can wear one from a previous year or bring in an old t-shirt for screen printing this week):

This year students may wear any TBS shirt that they already own in our June 2, 2016 walk. IF they are interested in the TBS logo with a heart in the “window” shape that is what we will be printing the week of May 23 -27th.
1. Solid color or white shirt
2. No graphics (the fabric paint is not opaque enough to work over a previous design)
3. repurpose a shirt you already own or hit a thrift store (out of the Closet is appx. 3 blocks East of the TBS University Ave. Campus)
