Today we began our penultimate week of the 2015-16 school year. We are busy assessing reading and spelling skills, squeezing in a few last lessons, and celebrating a great year together. This afternoon, students began their second engineering challenge: catapults. After learning about the different types of potential and kinetic energy, students used magnifying glasses to burn their names into the bottom of the piece of wood they would use as the base to their catapult. Squinting or using sunglasses was a necessity! This was to get students thinking about the ways energy changes form, starting with the nuclear processes happening inside the sun. Tonight, they’ll draw and write about what they think was happening. Tomorrow, they’ll shoot little pieces of sponge at target areas and record their data. Photos to come!

Don’t forget, the Walkathon is on Thursday. We also head to the Gold Country next Monday. Stay tuned for details, and thanks to my drivers!
