Dear Cerrito families,

Happy Indigenous People’s day, and welcome to a new week. We have our first field trip coming up in two weeks to the Exploratorium to deepen our experience thinking about electricity and magnetism. Students are hard at work on their state maps this week, as well as compiling the data they took on people who move this weekend.

It’s time to sign up for the field trips we have planned so far this year, from the Exploratorium in a few weeks to the Train Museum in April. Here’s the doc. Can’t wait for all that time in the field together! Also check your email inbox for a share link to the doc.

Thursday Homework

Math: 4th graders are to do odd numbered problems for twenty minutes between pages 29 and 43. 5th graders should FINISH this week’s packet.

Here’s a great math challenge for both grades: Factor Chains. Our class record is 24. Can you beat it?

Reading Group assignment #2 in Sign of the Beaver. Do your job, which is detailed on your reading group packet.

Typing: The goal for 4th graders is to get to 25 wpm by the end of the year and 3o wpm for 5th graders. We will assign students typing homework twice a week until they achieve this goal. Please supervise, to some degree, to make sure students’ fingers are returning to the home row, and they seem to be using good, safe technique. The link to the typing website is on this page and their username/password is the same as the one they use for the Chromebooks, which they all know.

Social Studies/Spelling: Memorize ten more states. That means 40 in all for this Friday!
