Dear Cerrito families,
Big happenings on the horizon–our class play is next Tuesday, May 23rd at 6 pm. We will sing, dance, and act our ways down the Oregon Trail, then graduate our fifth graders and pass the fifth grade baton to our fourth graders. We will be working with room coordinators to provide some pizzas for students before the show, so if you’d like to keep your child in extended day until the show, they will be fed and ready. The show and graduation should be over by 7:30. Students will dress in a combination of bonnets and straw hats we have at school here and jeans, dresses, boots, button-downs, and Black Lives Matter t-shirts from home. Each child has a vision for their own outfit, so be sure to check in with them over the next few days to get it together.
And of course, Tahoe…remember that we rendezvous at TBS at 7:30 on Thursday morning and will return on Friday at 4:30 or 5. I invite you to pick up the children in your carpool at their homes, or organize to leave straight from home, but please let me know if you have an alternate plan so we don’t leave anyone behind. Drivers will meet at the trailhead for our hike, and once we have everyone, we’ll set off on approximately a 3-hour, flat hike along a stream north of Truckee, in the Tahoe-Donner area along highway 89. It’s called Sagehen Creek, and here’s a very detailed description of the hike. The rendezvous at Sagehen trailhead will likely be 11, depending on traffic, etc., and the hike commences sometime soon thereafter. There is very little snow on the hike, but plenty of mud, so students should plan footwear accordingly.
After the hike, we head to Clair Tappan Lodge for snow play, snacks, then dinner and bed. We’ll wake up the next morning, pack up, eat breakfast, then spend the day hiking, exploring, climbing, and sledding. We’ll leave the Donner Pass area by 1:30 and should be back to TBS by 4:30 or 5. Be in touch with your child’s driver to figure out pick-up times.
Here’s the packing list one more time:
