Calendar of January events (i.e. when you are coming in to class to meet with your role groups). Email me with the times you will be coming in. I only heard from the clerks. You need to come in twice in January to prep your group.
Cerrito Creek’s Ft Ross Schedule
Thursday, February 1 – Friday, February 2, 2018
7:15 Arrive at TBS, pack cars
7:30 Depart TBS, stop in Jenner to use restroom, snack in car
10:00 Arrive at Reef Campground; wait until everyone arrives. See note under directions.
11:00 Students arrive at fort and are greeted by Ft Ross Interpretive Specialist, gives tour of the fort
11:30 Lunch (students bring their own), share impressions
12:00 Orientation with interpreter and flag raising ceremony with militia
1:00 Work in assigned groups. Don’t forget to write in your journals when you are finished. Be prepared with a rainy day plan/activity, officers.
3:00 Clean up and return gear dry to ELP Company Store Room.
4:00 Dinner is served. Eat at outside picnic tables if dry, inside Officials’ Quarters if raining.
4:30 Clean up. (Wash station inside if raining). Mail call. Teacher takes all employees to windmill to receive bluff tops for sunset observation. Parents stay behind and continue cleanup and have quiet time.
5:30 Groups share their day’s experiences in Kuskov House.
Managers (Mike and Hannah, aka Ivan and Aleksander) makes announcements for the evening.
6:30 Lanterns are lit. Silent candlelight walk to chapel. Read Russian folk tales, songs, poems.
7:30 Candlelight walk to sleeping quarters. Quiet time. Prepare for bed.
8:00 Teachers watch. Set up night watch food and activities in Officials’ Quarters.
9:00 Lights Out
9:00-11:00First Watch, Cooks
11:00-1:00 Second Watch, Artisans
1:00-3:00 Third Watch, Hunters
3:00-5:00 Fourth Watch, Clerks
5:00-7:00 Fifth Watch, Militia
7:00 Rise and shine everybody.
7:00 Cooks start breakfast
7:30 Breakfast, clean up. Pack personal gear, put downstairs in Southeast Blockhouse.
8:30 Morning Responsibilities. Each group takes turns at Trade Store. Same order as night watches.
9:30 Morning hike to the cemetery, beach, or orchard (time allowing). Dancing. Cannon firing. Flag-lowering ceremony.
11:30 Share experiences, eat lunch, parents drive cars to fort to pack gear.
12:30 Head for home.
3:00 Arrive at TBS (note that this is 45 minutes later than usual for a Friday).
Please do not go to Visitor Center until you are on your way home.
COSTUME INFO
Packing List
1. A BAG LUNCH FOR ARRIVAL AT THE FORT.
2. WARM SLEEPING BAG, PAD & GROUND CLOTH–You will sleep on wood floors in the fort buildings.
3. EATING UTENSILS: Cup, plate and/or bowl, knife, fork, spoon, and water bottle.
4. PERSONAL TOILET ARTICLES: Don’t forget sun screen, the sun can be very strong. Bring toothbrush and toothpaste.
5. ANY NECESSARY MEDICATIONS: Include written instructions for the teacher; give medications and instructions to the teacher upon departure.
6. PENCIL: For writing in journals and sketching.
7. HEADGEAR: Russian style babushkas (scarf) for girls and/or a warm hat for night watch. Sun hats are highly recommended for students and adults alike, especially for spring or fall dates.
8. CHANGE OF CLOTHES AND SHOES: Children and parents should wear their costume to the fort. Bring a second set of clothes as well. Even if the weather looks warm, evenings are always quite cold on the coast. Students’ feet and clothing often get wet during the day’s activities therefore two pairs of shoes are essential. Black rain boots are highly recommended.
