In our final week before the February vacation week, we will finish up MAP tests.

Students are delving into the Rancho period of California history, which ran from Mexican independence in 1821 to the Gold Rush. Rancheros ran giant cattles ranches, threw grand fiestas, and a robust trade in beef and cattle products dominated the economy of the day. The vestiges of these ranches are still apparent in our local regional parks (see Briones) and EBMUD land.

We are also exploring the ocean’s many life zones, from sandy shores to deep sea canyons. Students are drawing food webs, studying the flora and fauna, and making guidebooks to these distinct domains.
