Walkathon Thursday–pack a lunch!

Spanish update from Jessica:

In Spanish class, students are putting final touches on presentations they’ve been working on about different Spanish-speaking countries. Teams have chosen creative ways to share about the country and culture they have researched, doing an excellent job of utilizing newly acquired vocabulary in their presentations. One team made an out-of-this-world tres leches cake with our Spanish intern Jenny. Another team shared a mock interview with an actress from Colombia, and another made a beautiful clay Costa Rican gecko. Throughout the year we have been focused on the “super siete,” the 7 most common Spanish verbs, deepening comprehension through the use of gestures, pictures, and cognates. Ask your kids what they are! 🙂 Students have finished final edits on stories they wrote using an online resource called StoryBird, which inspires writers of any age to get creative with their storytelling. Next week, K-2 students will “meet the authors” when Cerrito Creek and Strawberry Creek students read their completed books to them. So your students will be helping to celebrate Spanish language and literacy with their younger peers here at TBS! We encourage families to listen to a little Spanish music, radio or tv programs over the summer. Continued exposure, repetition, and practice is the key to maintaining language skills.
