Please join us with Jennifer Devine, Wednesday, March 11, 7-8p in the Depot. Parents Only. Click here to reserve childcare.
As an important area of development, understanding and self-respect, our 4th-6th grade students will engage in a series of health and puberty education classes during the week of March 16. Our goal is to proactively empower our students with accurate information about their maturing bodies. During the typically confusing and awkward stage of adolescence, we hope to create open communication among students, and between students and adults.
Jennifer Devine, founder of Superstar Health Education (S.H.E.), will meet with each class individually (Cerrito, Strawberry and Wildcat) for 4 hour-long sessions. Jennifer is a well-recognized speaker with 20 years experience as a youth educator and health specialist, and we are happy that she is returning to TBS for a second year to work with our students. We appreciate both her professionalism and her ability to create respectful, fun workshops for kids.
All sessions will be overseen by the classroom teachers, who will be available to answer any questions that arise. The students will also receive workbooks containing all of the information covered. We encourage you to talk with your children about what they are learning. The workbook will be a helpful resource for you to initiate discussions or to answer questions your children may have.
The curricular goals of S.H.E are to inform students about:
- the changes in the body, mind and emotions that most adolescents experience
- personal hygiene and the importance of taking care of oneself
- the functions of the reproductive systems
- the importance of making wise, informed decisions and avoiding risks
