Communication with teachers

Teachers will accessible to you by phone and email between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. We will check our email two times a day. You want us in front of your kids and preparing for class!

    • We will use email for one to one communications.
    • Blogs will be every other week.
    • ParentSquare will be for class announcements.

Homework

 Let student be independent when it comes to getting it done, the conversation can be between the student and teacher. Encourage your student to write a note and check in with the teacher when they get to class about an extension if they need it.

Check the work tracker for your students assignments and if they have been complete or not. Teachers will update the tracker on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Our goals for homework are as follows: 

  • Preview or review information in class. This can serve as a pre-assessment or a formative assessment of understanding, which informs our instruction, either for the entire class or individuals.
  • Build content skills through practice. Examples include working with new formats from the Bridges math curriculum, reading and writing fluency (increasing vocabulary, comprehension strategies, practicing mechanics) or spelling patterns.
  • Develop executive functioning skills. This includes time management, organization, and discipline. 
  • Create a school to home connection Encourage conversation about school, both the celebrations and the challenges. 

Teachers will…

  • Review homework daily with students. 
  • Typically,
    • Spelling/word work is assigned on Mondays due Friday. 
    • Math is assigned on Monday due Wednesday, and on Wednesday due Friday.
    • Writing will be assigned twice a week on average, and may be across subjects, for example a Science journal response. 
  • Assign homework that is reasonably accomplished within the one hour minute frame including 30 minutes of reading. 
  • Differentiate assignments based on demonstrated need and/or communication with parenting adults. 
  • Provide time to work on homework during soft starts in the morning and on Fridays.
  • Provide feedback about homework that is encouraging and specific.
