Hola, Live Oak families!

We are so happy to announce that we started 2023 having full attendance! Yes, 15 students everyday, and soon Leo is going to make 16!

Because of the cold weather we offered the children a warm Mexican drink made of dry and fresh fruit, cinnamon and sugar cane. Everybody loved it!

After the presentation on reptiles, the children showed great interest in learning about these peculiar vertebrates. We set up the zoology shelf with a variety of works and materials such as the Montessori turtle puzzle with its control chart, lizard matching cards, reptile cards, and parts of the turtle (three part cards).

With the students’ help, the fantasy corner turned into a cave where the children love playing in groups of three with the different reptiles.

Sensory bins

Preschool children are very sensorial and love exploring, looking closely, and manipulating concrete stuff. In addition to all the materials offered on the shelves we constantly update the sensory bin. This time, the children had the opportunity to feel and enjoy very fine sand, and look for land reptiles such as snakes, tortoises, and iguanas. Also, we added a second sensory bin/tray with water and aquatic reptiles such as crocodiles, sea turtles, and water snakes.

Art and crafts

Catherine led a cute turtle project with egg cartons and everybody made their own little turtles. Niki invited the children to draw turtles and crocodiles. She also created a snake scales group project where everybody helped glue paper scales on segments of paper and then put them together to form a 5 feet long snake. They called it “Rainbow Snake”

Our class loves mixing colors! So it was time to present the color thoery. This week they started mixing primary colors to discover the secondary colors. They had so much fun!

Lunar year

This coming  week, our school will honor the Lunar year and our dearest Julianne helped the children to make a dragon head for the celebration. We will close the week with a parade on Friday February 3rd. The children are welcome to wear red clothes for the good luck.

Birthdays

We celebrated Henrik’s and Henry’s birthdays. They turned  4 and 5 years old!

Happy birthday to both of them, and thank you to their families for joining us to celebrate.

Movement

Yoga has been included in our routine by popular demand. It has been a pleasure to see how the children do their best to perform all the poses!

Our movement class focused on imitating how reptiles move. They loved crawling,  climbing, slithering, and swimming.

We are proud to share just a couple of the many sweet moments that happen in live Oak everyday.

The photo below was captured during storytime. Jet saw Paige struggling with her shoes and quietly walked towards her and put her boots on.

The link below will take you to a video of a younger group teaching each other using the reptile cards. We hope you enjoy watching this charming moment as much as we did!
