Hola Familias de Live Oak!

These weeks in Live Oak we are learning of African-American people that stood out for their intelligence, perseverance, courage, and passion for justice.

The students showed interest in learning about Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Barack Obama. We started introducing the story of their lives and work through simple biographies projects related to them.

We also appreciated our dearest ex day teacher, Catherine, by making portraits of her. The children looked at a picture of Catherine as a reference for their drawing. Thank you Julianne for helping our students with this project.

Theory of colors

Mixing colors is one of everybody’s favorite activities to do in Live Oak. The children love to see two primary colors make a second color! Once they start mixing, it is not easy to stop them! This time the project was mixing primary and secondary colors with white and black. It was so great to see their amazed faces during this activity.

Science

We know children love science projects and observing cause and effect. Honoring this interest, we started our science curriculum with the volcano project where the students mix colored vinegar with baking soda.

In the Practical life area, we added the silver polishing and ring napkins works which have  been very popular.

In Sensorial, the older group worked on the triangular box and reproduced it with construction paper. The younger group is working on the knob cylinders, brown stairs,  and the pink tower.

In small groups and one-on-one lessons we are challenging our students with math tasks.

In the area of language, some children are reading three letter short vowel words, others are learning the beginning sounds, letter recognition, listening to story books, practicing writing their names, organizing sequence cards, singing, and participating in role play.

Agradecimientos:

Many thanks to Guy’s family for taking care of our lunch napkins.

We are looking forward to meeting  you in our Spring Parent Teacher conferences!
