Hola familias de Live Oak!

After the Cinco de Mayo week and the big fiesta the children have returned to exploring the classroom shelves and trying new works such as table washing, sewing work, sound cylinders, short chains, and the land and water forms matching cards.

Human Body

After we learned how the human body’s organs, work we introduced  the skeleton using an x-ray kit donated by Marisa, Ziggy’s mom. The children showed a lot of interest in learning about bones and enjoyed  the skeleton kit very much!

Fantasy corner

The fantasy corner is visited everyday. The children take turns to be doctors and patients. Beside they negotiate about the roles, they have the responsability to clean up and leave the little hospital tide and neat together.

Art

We were wondering if the spring and the beautiful gardens all over inspired the children to draw flowers. It started with a couple of students that influenced the rest of the class. Following the children’s interest and motivation, we presented the Montessori flower puzzle where the children can see and manipulate each part of the flower: petals, corolla, pistils, calyx, and stamens. Also, Julianne brought in a beautiful chalk pastel project inspired in a big fresh flowers bouquet.

Traveling scholars

The traveling scholars were Adeline, Iona, Amara, and Paige. They all had a good time in the Mariposa classroom. Now our students are traveling to the Cedar classroom to meet other teachers and friends. Guy and Henrik were the first ones.

Geography

Julianne helped the children draw a map of our campus. First, they observed the yard and classroom. Then they started identifying and locating each part of the campus including the classrooms, berm, grass area, and sand box. Another map group project was the land and water forms map. Together, we drew a map including all the land and water forms they know such as islands, lakes, capes, bays, peninsulas, and gulfs.

Parents visiting

Anna and Patrick, Whit’s parents, brought in a great tea project! They organized and presented the activity with the Montessori approach. The students had the opportunity to see and smell the different kinds of teas such as herbs, flowers, leaves, seeds, bark and roots. They also tasted chamomile tea and everybody loved it. Then, they formed teams of four and each student made their own tea bag! The afternoon project was making more tea bags and together we delivered them to the other classroom’s teachers. The children loved it! Thanks Anna, Patrick, and Whit for this fun project!
