VIP

We had our most successful VIP Day this year with 100% attendance in Live Oak! It was very sweet to watch the students proudly show their school to their special visitors. The visitors seemed to be as delighted as the children.

Fall art

After the Día de Muertos unit, we immersed ourselves in a Fall theme. The children observed different kinds of trees, and discovering and identifying the beautiful warm colors was a great moment for us to witness. “It’s red”, “it’s orange”, “it’s yellow!”, “My favorite is the red one!”. Through an art lesson, we provided the opportunity to draw and paint many different trees. They were as fascinated with this art project as we were fascinated by the results.

We also observed different leaves and made fall-themed art projects, such as leaf stamps, leaf prints, and watercolors. In addition to Fall art, we examined the parts of the tree and leaf, as well as their important functions using the Montessori puzzles.

Geography

We presented the bay and cape, and we had a lot of fun bringing the Geography lesson to the sandbox.

Nature corner

Our fantasy corner is currently transformed into a nature corner. We originally planned for the nature corner to be short-term while we prepared the next theme, but the children love it and it became so popular, that we decided to keep it for longer. The children enjoy exploring, touching, and observing the various nature materials such as seashells, rocks, driftwood, etc.

Birthdays

We celebrated Neela’s 3rd birthday with a sweet birthday circle sharing memories and the Happy Birthday dance.

Cooking project

We made pumpkin muffins from scratch. The cooks were Lucca, Ruby, and Sasha. They enjoyed mixing all the ingredients and everybody loved them.

Traveling scholars

Traveling scholars is a great opportunity to see a different classroom, as well as meet new friends and teachers. Every Thursday, Cedar and Live Oak classrooms exchange two students.

Our travelers these weeks were, Luke, Rami, and Ruby G. Our visitors were Ishan, Malia, Camille, and Zinnia.

Visiting Artist

We had a visit from Jesus Sosa, an artist that makes alebrijes, Mexican folk art wood carvings of colorful animals and creatures. He showed us some of his beautiful and bright sculptures, and demonstrated how he carves and shapes the wood with different tools. The children loved watching and learning about the process.
