New students
We are excited to announce that Maren and Thomas made 18 students in Live Oak, and they are both having a great time in their new classroom.
Science
We introduced science to our classroom these last 2 weeks. The children have been having fun trying different science related activities and materials, as well as exploring our “Science Corner”. We also presented some science “experiments” that demonstrated actions and reactions, which the children found very fascinating and exciting.
With the older group, we started talking about gifts and challenges. We discussed how everyone has things that they are good at, and things that are challenging for them. Part of being human is not being perfect! Everyone gave an example of something they are really good at, and something that is hard for them. It was great to hear the children discuss this about themselves and see them beginning to see themselves in new ways.
Art
Jill, Arlo’s mom, donated a beautiful plant with flowers to the classroom. The children loved it, and they were inspired to draw it! They made still life art by observing the plant, and doing their best to draw their observations. Julianne, our art teacher, helped the children make paper snakes for the Lunar New Year of the Snake. The children loved the art project! Everyone made at least 2 or 3 snakes.
Cooking project
Our cooking project was Mexican fruit punch, a warm drink made of dried fruits, cinnamon, and water. The cooks were Bea, Esmeralda, Micah, Ruby G. and Ruby F.
Traveling scholars
Felix, Ruby G., and Esmeralda visited Cedar classroom. We hosted Belle, Cedar, Malia, and Nico. They definitely enjoyed exploring different works.
