Kindness potluck: April 4th. Only for children. More details coming soon.
Self portraits
We closed our Beautiful Brown unit by helping the children draw their self-portrait using oil pastels. We also used all the different shades of brown paint they mixed, and each child chose the shade that best matched their own skin. Take a peek in our art gallery, they are fabulous!
Reptiles
Our students have been using play-dough to model snakes, and talking about the snake’s body parts. Following this interest and curiosity, we decided to start the Reptiles unit, introducing it with the book “About Reptiles” by Cathryn Sill. Together, we made two groups of reptiles( land and water) and set up two sensory bins.
Cooking projects
These weeks the children helped their teachers make green play-dough. They loved mixing all the ingredients and feeling the fresh and warm play-dough they created. We also made molletes (toasted bread with refried beans and cheese), a Mexican snack eaten for dinner. The cooking team were Ava, Ruby F., Rishi, Esmeralda, Lucca, and Sasha. Everybody loved the molletes!
Art
The children had so much fun mixing, drawing and making prints. Julianne helped them to make a colorful paper quilt and Niki started simple drawing lessons.
Traveling scholars
Our traveling scholars this week were Maren and Neela and we hosted Summit and Bryton.
Musician visitor
We were very lucky to host a special visitor, Salani “Wamkanganise” Matshoba, from Harare, Zimbabwe. He is an amazing mbira musician and instrument maker. Mr. Salani did a beautiful and fun musical performance accompanied by our music teacher Aaron. Check out the links below to take a look.
