Kindness week
We started the week reading story books about kindness. We also did role-plays, and provided work stations where the children can make cards for their friends and families. It was a pleasure to see the children practicing being kind each other.
Also, our class cleaned and organized the sand box and offered to wash the easels that belonged to the other classrooms. It was impressive how the children were so engaged working together with lots of enthusiasm and joy. To express their gratitude, the Cedar classroom made strawberry smoothies for us, and the Caterpillar classroom made popsicles as a thank you for the great work the Live Oak kids did in the sandbox.
Potluck
The Potluck was a big hit! Thank you Live Oak families, for bringing your designated item and contributing to the lunch the children had today. They really enjoyed sharing food together, there was a nice feeling of community!
Special story time
Remy. Leila’s mom, visited Live Oak to read a book about Passover. She also brought matzo to share with the class. The children loved listening to the story and trying the matzo!
Reptiles
Our class has been learning about reptiles. We started with snakes, followed by tortoises and sea turtles. They love the three different reptile stations; the sand sensory bin with land reptiles, the water sensory tray with aquatic reptiles, and the fantasy corner where they play with the snakes, komodo dragon, turtles, and lizards. They also enjoyed listening and looking at science and story books about reptiles.
Art
After learning about snakes’ skin, the children painted large sheets of paper to make scaly skin to craft colorful snakes. The drawing lessons focused on snakes and tortoises, sea turtles, and the children made great drawings.
Our Art teacher Julianne helped the children make their own picture frame. They will be used to frame a picture of each child, and will be displayed at the TBS Block party!
Dancing in Live Oak
It was too rainy to play outside, so we had a dance party. We have great dancers in Live Oak!
Movement
Movement on Fridays is very popular. It’s an opportunity for the children to challenge their physical skills, such as balancing on a beam, walking on a ladder, jumping, and running.
Traveling scholars
These weeks our travelers to Cedar classroom were Esmeralda and Leila. We hosted Sunny and Zinnia. They all had a lot of fun exploring our classrooms.
