Hello Magnolia Families! Here you’ll find what we’ve been busy working on here in the classroom. Wait until you see the city we’ve been creating!

Reminder: Conferences are this Thursday and Friday. Childcare will be in Magnolia and required registration. If you have any questions about whether your child is registered for childcare, please contact the ECC office. Mitra and Emily will be hosting conferences in Mariposa classroom on Thursday, and in the library adjacent to Cedar classroom on Friday. We look forward to chatting with you!

Our City

Take a look at how much our city has been growing. So far, we’ve created a school, office building, dessert restaurant, market and zoo. Soon we will construct a park and so much more. See the shiny windows on the buildings? Just like a real city!

m, n, o, and p

Our newest alphabet friends include molly the mosquito, nelly the newt, and next week: olly the octopus and piggy the piglet. Teachers have added more varied activities to the language shelf and even some fun games (ask your child about the frog and lily pad game!). Non-nappers have been invited to use pencil grips that support comfortable finger placement on their writing tools. We continue to explore handwriting each week as a group and with individual activities.

Musical notes: c, d, and e (then f, g, a and b!)

Emily introduced the class to musical notes c, d and e on three of our classroom instruments: the bells, the xylophone, and the keyboard. Each musical note corresponds to a colored dot sticker on the instrument. Did you know you can make songs with just three notes? We learned how to play “Mary had a little lamb” together, and even had a chorus of instruments playing these notes together. We will continue to add more notes, creating more complex musical arrangements and eventually writing our own songs!

Self Portraits

Throughout the year, teachers introduce many ways to express our identities through art making, loose parts, and movement. This week, we created self portraits with a new material- charcoal pencils. We learned that charcoal pencils create beautiful smudges when pushed around paper with your finger. Next up, we’ll be making miniatures of photos of ourselves to place around the city we are building.

Around Magnolia

Thank you Mitra, Noushin and Pezhham (k-7 music teacher) for bringing the sounds of Nowruz to our campus! Nowruz is the Persian New Year, celebrated this year March 20th and 21st. We enjoyed listening to a live percussion performance and enjoyed dancing to the beats. We look forward to hearing more about Nowruz in the coming weeks with Mitra!
