Hello Magnolia Families,

Happy New Year! We hope your winter break was full of joy and fun. We’re all happy to be back in Magnolia Classroom and have been seamlessly adjusting back to our daily routine. In the spirit of emergent curriculum (inspired by the interests of the children) we’ve begun our Outer Space unit! The children have been so excited to share what they know about space, as well as brainstorm questions about things we want to learn more about. Stay tuned to our blog in the coming weeks to see what we discover!

Affirmations

I am kind

You may have seen this poster in Magnolia classroom and wondered: what do they mean? Here are affirmations we learned this week. Affirmations are positive statements that we can say to ourselves that remind us what makes us all special. We created an “affirmation mirror” that we can look at as we recite our affirmations. We wondered: how does it make us feel to say affirmations to ourselves? Some friends felt like it was like being nice to themselves, and some thought of affirmations as reminders to ourselves. We talked about ways that each of these affirmations reflect who we are, and we look forward to learning more about how to use our curiosity, power and kindness to express who we are.

December and January Birthdays

It’s been a busy time for birthdays, with Gus, Jordan, Zuri and Selah all celebrating! We welcomed families to join us for morning birthday circles.

Welcoming New Friends

This week we welcomed Ollin and Henley to Magnolia classroom! These friends started in Fall in Caterpillar classroom, and we’re so glad they can join us here to learn and play each day. Make sure to give them a warm welcome when you see them next!

Around Magnolia

Thanks Grandpa Clyde for visiting us, Julianne for bringing art projects, Chrissy for music circles and even Rebecca who made fresh bread with us before our winter break! We’ve also introduced letters f and g, and encountered many new works on the shelves.
