Greeting Mariposa Families,

We have been enjoying our first few weeks in Mariposa! The children are getting to know one another, internalizing daily routines, and having fun in the classroom. In this blog post, I will lay out the pictures in the order of our day.

During morning circle, we sing a few songs and the leader of the day helps with the calendar and weather. The leader also enjoys special jobs like ringing the bell during transitions, leading the line, holding our special stuffy during story time, spraying tables and the end of the day, and being a special teacher helper. After songs and calendar, we read the board and start off the day with a lesson or small group project. Then, it’s free choice time and self-serve snack.

Next, we have a music and movement circle and transition to outside play time. Around noon, the children eat lunch then transition to sketchbook siesta. During this time of day, they can either color in their sketchbook or look at books. It is meant to be a restorative fifteen minutes with calm music playing where they can recharge for the afternoon.

After sketchbook siesta, we transition to story time. I read one picture book and one chapter from our book. We are enjoying an animal character chapter book series by Jill Tomlinson and have already finished the first book The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. Once we are finished reading, we do special afternoon projects. Below are some of the things the children have been up to in the afternoons. We have decorated our useful bags, enjoyed process art projects, made name necklaces, done science experiments, and more! Every Friday afternoon is Maker’s cart create time. I bring out a cart filled with random art supplies and they get to make whatever they desire. After special projects, the children have a bit more free play time or outside time and then we transition to our last circle. In our final circle of the day, we play games and sing our goodbye song.

Every other Tuesday our visiting artist, Julianne comes to Mariposa for the morning. Every Wednesday morning, the children have thirty minutes of music and movement with Chrissy. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon Daniella spends the afternoon in Mariposa.

I hope to see you all at Back to School Night on Thursday at 6:00. We will get to know one another better and I will share more about myself and the curriculum. Adults only!   😉

Best,

Christin
