Unicorn Sculpture
We love collaborative projects in Mariposa! Over the past few weeks, we have been constructing a unicorn from recycled materials. We started by covering a laundry detergent container with newsprint and then made it colorful by covering it with bleeding tissue paper. The horn was wrapped with a string and painted a shimmery purple. Several children learned how to braid yarn for the mane. We even finished it off with rainbow wire eyelashes. It will be displayed on our wall surrounded by blue fabric to make it appear to be coming through a cloud!
Scientific Inquiry and Mathematical Thinking
With our sound of the week being “S” we focused on a few scientific investigations. The children enjoyed watching and exploring a rainbow milk experiment that demonstrated the qualities of density in liquids. See the video and pictures below of their excitement!
We have been focusing on geometric solids the past two weeks. They were introduced to them as part of a what’s missing game to help them memorize the names of a cone, cube, cylinder, sphere, and ovoid. To explore the qualities of these solids they each built a cube and triangular cylinder out of wire and marshmallows.
Kindness Week
We completed a long kindness chain documenting lots of nice deeds and words from this week! For the kindness festival, our class offered a butterfly making project inspired by the book Lili Macaroni who is a little girl who makes polka-doted butterflies when she feels sad. The intention behind the project was being kind to ourselves and celebrating our differences.
We had a wonderful final day of Magic March blended with the end of Kindness Week. Thank you to all the families who brought in food for our magical feast. The children loved the sushi, miso soup, cookies and juice!
