Dragons and Dinosaurs
When studying the sound and letter “D” we dove into the exciting world of dragons and dinosaurs. After reading the story Raising Dragons by Jerdine Nolen, the children were asked a series of questions about their own imaginative dragon. This activity was a creative writing process for preschoolers. We collaborated with our teaching artist, Julianne, who brought in play dough for the children to create a three dimensional dragon based on their sketches.
The children enjoyed dinosaur puzzles and miniatures. Each child got to hatch and grow a dinosaur egg into a tiny dinosaur, that they then identified in our dinosaur research books.
Our most exciting part of studying the letter “D” was learning about different styles of dance. Our very own Live Oak teacher, Griselda, visited our classroom and performed a Mexican dance and taught the children a partner dance called La Raspa.
E is for Experiments
We have a lovely bunch of junior scientists in Mariposa classroom this year! They loved the scientific thinking and exploration this week. We did a bouncy egg experiment which involved leaving an egg in vinegar for two days, guessing what would happen, and exploring the end result. The children enjoyed a colorful vinegar and baking soda bubbly project.
Pumpkin Fun
The children have been playing a math game with mini pumpkins. One child hides ten pumpkins around the room while another searches for them. They group them into two sets of five to make sure they have found all ten. We dissected a pumpkin and named the parts while learning about its’ lifecycle. After dissecting we rinsed and roasted the seeds and baked pumpkin bread!
Music with AaronÂ
We had our first music class with Aaron this week! The video shows the children (and teachers) having a blast!
