Following up on Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, students learned with the Scavenger Hunt game facts about Hispanic Heritage Month, for example: When is Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated? Which country celebrates independence on Sept. 18? What does Hispanic mean? Which Native Americans are included in the celebration? When did Hispanic Heritage Month begin? 6th, 7th and 8th students walked with clipboards to locate the sentence cards and write their answers around the school. 

Seventh and eighth graders presented the first project of the year, called “Hispanic Heritage Month.” This project consisted of creating a Poster/Canvas/Google Slide (7th grade) and presentation in Google Slide (8th grade) about the most important facts of a Spanish-speaking country that students chose in groups of 2 or 3 students (individual presentations was a personal choice). The project, in addition to being in Spanish, included: country name and location, map, the capital and 2 other major cities, brief history, food, holiday/festival/music/dance, flag, and as extra credit, 5 fun facts.

In conclusion to this unit, the terms that people use to identify themselves have presented certain disputes according to the place of birth, generation, political relationship and the origin of descent. Students were able to identify the different terminologies of Hispanic or Latin(x) according to people’s own preference for their country of origin or heritage.
