You never know how the first day back after a break will go, but we eased in with excitement and good cheer! Kinders tumbled in with stories about movies, travels, and tidbits about time with family and friends. We were missing a few friends due to travels or sickness, but we were excited to be back and for those away, we continued our tradition to “picture so and so in your mind’s eye. Send them love and well wishes from your heart to theirs. See if you can feel when your kindness reaches them.” It’s a really sweet tradition that helps to keep everyone in mind even when they are away.
Many children shared that they used the mats we made to help set the tables at home! Yay! Setting the table is a perfect routine for the 6 and under set. Math, care for others, real world responsibility – all wrapped up in one seemingly small task. First we created our woven placemats, set them with utensils, a pop up cup, and a plate filled with our favorite foods. Next, kinders choose from many different types and styles of dishes to practice setting their own table. They even included a little flower arrangement. Afterwards, they asked a friend to take a photo of them with their tablescape. It was a treat to peek into the ipad to see just how they’d captured each other.
Here are a few of the 100 pictures they took of each other! :o)
Children also shared that they’d given and lit their ‘this little light of mine candle’ at their tables. We hope that you enjoyed all of the treasures they brought home and felt loved and appreciated by their ‘I am thankful for posters.’
Enjoy this little peek into our table setting, candle making, and gratitude work:
Thank you to everyone who helped to make our Very Important People Day such a fun and special day! The Women’s and Children’s Center was so grateful and delighted to receive all of the bags and wagons full of staples and prepared food. Thank you to VIP’s, to all those able to donate, to everyone who sent in kind words of gratitude for the day, to Bill (Daniela’s husband who came to play guitar and try to keep us together (I love to sing, but what comes out of my mouth is NOT what I hear in my head. Oof!), and to all the TBS staff who worked behind the scenes to make it happen.
Action items:
We have a new opportunity to give. For December, we are collecting NEW toiletries: especially toothcare products, wipes, deodorant, lotion, period products, and diapers.
- Please send them in by Tuesday for us to sort and tally.
- The items MUST BE UNOPENED AND UNUSED.
- No medicines or vitamins
We’ll be delivering these (along with the bags we’ve decorated for The Center to use for gift giving to their clients) on Wednesday the 14th.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR:
You’re invited! If you’re able, please join us on Thursday 8:30-9:00(ish) for some festive fun. Come play dreidel and make your own, play gingerbread math, see our gingerbread village and learn about our gingerbread exchange with other schools across the country, make a beaded snowflake, read a wintery story and more…
If you are unable to join us, no worry! We’ll have more opportunities after the break.
Then, on Friday (fingers crossed) we’ll be easing into the break with a g-rated movie, pajama, hot chocolate, popcorn party! We are working our way toward this party. The last week before a vacation – especially one with the excitement and promise of Winter Break – came be wild and wooly. To help keep us working together as a team, we are trying to get sticky notes with different team tasks removed from the poster announcing our party. Slowly but surely we are getting them removed. Check in with your child to hear the latest progress. You can only imagine the joyful chaos that erupts as we’re able to remove that last sticky note! Also on deck? Gingerbread house making! Team work definitely makes the dream work.
Here’s a sign up sheet for Friday.
A big thank you to family ambassadors Melissa, Juma, Erin, Mark, and Miki for sharing your experiences and answering questions (and for being a smiling face in the crowd) about kindergarten during Tuesday’s admissions event.
Questions? Comments? Concerns? Compliments? We’ll take them all!
Danette and Daniela
P.S. I am trying to figure out the best way to share the pictures that we take each week. Individual Google docs for each child? Help! Does anyone have an idea for sharing that is easy and won’t take a lot of time to implement?
