Here is some hot off the presses information about an opportunity for giving and about Very Important Person Day:

(ACTION ITEMS AT THE BOTTOM)

Earlier this week, we welcomed in Terri, Program Director from The Women’s Drop in Center. Even before we were a Civic Engagement school, Sweet Briar Creek partnered with The Center; this will be our 17th year!

During her visit Terri shared ways in which the center helps with all types of support – for hearts, minds, and bodies. She also shared that during the pandemic, they saw many men caring for children that also needed support. So they’ve opened their services to include them, too. In class we’ve talked about when helping, you look for or ask for the need and make sure that you are actually doing something that is helpful for the people you’re helping and not just helping to make yourself feel good.

You’ve received an invite for Very Important Person Day from the school and now here’s the invite from us:

Your child’s Very Important Person or People (VIP’s are any adults that know and love your child – you, family members, dear friends; it’s up to you) will join us in the classroom at 12:30. We’ll welcome you in to help us get packed up, before walking together The Center. There, we’ll deliver all of the staples and the prepared foods. We’ll sing and spread cheer before walking back to the classroom to share a muffin, some tea and a story. Simple and sweet.

We’ve provided the lion’s share of their feast for almost 15 years now and are so grateful that you are helping to continue this tradition!

NOTE – THIS SCHEDULE IS FOR KINDERGARTEN ONLY. WE WON’T BE EATING LUNCH TOGETHER, BUT WILL HAVE TIME FOR A LITTLE NOSH WHEN WE RETURN

The Center is about 3 blocks from the school and is located at 2218 Acton Street. If your child‘s VIP will have difficulty with this walk, please let us know and we’ll come up with a plan! In the past we’ve arranged rides for them to meet us there. If your child will be sharing a VIP with a TBS sibling, let’s talk and we’ll figure out how to best manage the time between classrooms. If your child will not have a VIP for the afternoon, please let us know and we’ll help make sure that they feel supported and that they are a full and valued participant, too. In the past this hasn’t been an issue, because our classroom has a nice fluidity and ‘the more the merrier’ feel, the VIP’s have always been so welcoming and open with other children!

Here are the action items:

If you are able to come and if you have any questions, please ask! It is always such a sweet and festive time.

Happy Thursday – be well,

Danette and Daniela

P.S. I mean really, get a load of these adorable Veteran’s Day cards. We sent out the call for any ‘TBS adjacent Vets’ and I will take the rest over to the Chaparral House, a senior nursing facility in our neighborhood.

During our conversation about Veterans Day, we learned some facts about the day and said that unfortunately wars have been happening in some way since early humans were here on the planet and that thanking the Veterans for their contribution in keeping our country safe doesn’t mean that we like war. It’s all such complicated big stuff, but shared in a tiny, age appropriate ways. We’ve do so here, but please check with your child for any misunderstandings, worries, or wonders that they may have. Also, if you have a Vet in your family that would like a card from a kindergartner, please send their name and address and I’ll get one in the mail (it might not be the matched child, but it’ll be heartfelt regardless).

Happy weekend. Be well and we’ll see you bright-eyed and bushy tailed on Monday!

Danette and Daniela

P.S. Picture dump our our M-F good times coming soon. :o)
