Welcome!

We wrapped up our first days with this year’s amazing third grade class in Temescal Creek. Highlights include a campus scavenger hunt, meeting teachers of special classes and other helpful grown-ups around campus, exploring and wondering about a map of our world, labeling a map of TBS, visualizing our hopes and dreams, creating bookmarks and others works of art, and starting an enchanting read aloud titled The Wainscott Weasel. If you child says “nothing” when you ask how his/her day was in third grade . . . dip deeper!

One tip when talking with your child’s about his or her day is to try the rose-thorn-bud approach. Ask what the “rose” was: What was fun, interesting, or bloomed in a positive way? Then give space for the “thorn.” Did something happen at school that made them go “ouch?” Then encourage them be problem solvers about how to approach that situation differently next time, and remind them that we (and others) are there to help them at school to navigate those thorny situations that inevitably come up. Finally ask about the “bud” from their day. Is there something they are looking forward to, like Like Anza, for example? We are excited about our field trip tomorrow splashing, digging, and hiking. Dismissal will be at the regular Friday time of 2:15 pm at TBS.
What to pack/bring:
~Your child pre-suncreened plus more sunscreen to reapply.
~Swimsuit, towel, and other swimming gear in a plastic bag (all labeled).
~Labeled lunch and a water bottle (we will bring a class snack but feel free to pack more).
~Sturdy shoes for hiking around the lake and organized games.
Please do NOT send money for the snack bar (we won’t have time) and pack a sunhat and t-shirts if necessary.
We are thrilled to be spending our days teaching and learning with your children. What an honor! Please don’t hesitate to talk with us about any lingering questions or wonderings you may have. As we say in Temescal Creek, “When in doubt, check it out.” We are here to partner with you and make this the most wonderful school experience for your child.
