The last school day of 2015 started with a festive celebration of learning, and ended with a lovely student performance of classical guitar. Thank you parents for joining us so the Temescal writers could share their published five-paragraph expository essays with you, as well as their baking and handmade truffles. It was also joy to sing holiday songs together before we headed into winter break.
Our holiday letters were turned into beautiful cards with the help of the hand-carved stamps made in art studio. Thank you to Julianne who is continues to integrate art throughout the third grade curriculum.
Math and science come together in a hands on way when we baked our giant gingerbread man together . . . one student marveled at how all those separate ingredients come together to make something that smells and tastes sooooo good!
Truffle making is messy, multiplication fun! We tried our hands at rolling chocolate truffles after they came up in our multiplication studies. Look for real-world ways to continue to practice multiplication at home through arrays (rows and columns), as well as other groups of items.
We practiced reading our expository essays out loud to out buddies and made some last minute edits. The seventh graders were an appreciative and encouraging audience.
Temescal scientists wrote and drew about their observations of our Borax crystal experiments, which continue to grow in our windowsill and were inspired by six-branched snowflakes. Ask your child what they know about the science of snowflakes and who Snowflake Bentley was . . .
The week was also full of finishing work, choice time, and watching the classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Celebrating birthdays is always a treat!
Happy New Year! We look forward to seeing you in 2016 . . .
