Thank you to all of the grown ups that took the time to meet with us during parent-teacher conferences last Thursday and Friday. We enjoyed connecting and partnering  with you and learned even more about your children. Teaming up is the best way to help each students bloom and thrive in third grade and conferences were a great start!

In the three days leading up up to conferences we were busy finishing up projects like Grow Your Garden, compiling portfolios, and continuing to learn new things.

In writing we focused on aspects of complete sentences and different types of sentences. Students shared what they already know and taught each other a lot about subject and predicate, capitalization, and end punctuation. We also started learning about editing symbols and peer editing as we worked on a Morning Message that was one big run-on sentence . . .

During Super Science/Art on Wednesday students visited stations on plant pigmentation (with Julianne) and pollination, and then went on a leaf hunt around campus.

Many of you heard about calm.com from your child(ren), which Kate Klaire introduced to the students during Mindfulness as a way to help them visualize their own “Peaceful Place Inside.” We also talked about the “Size of the Problem,” which is a Zones of Regulation tool that helps students to get perspective on problems that pop up and how to respond (and not react) in healthy ways.

Halloween is fast approaching! Please note that our school parade and celebration will take place on Friday, October 28th. Watch for an email on how to sign up for our potluck, which will take place outside of our classroom after the parade. We are also looking for a few parent volunteers to lead festive centers of the arts and crafts variety.

Here are some more details on that morning:

~The K-8 Parade begins at 8:45 on Friday, 10/30 and lasts about 20 minutes. Families will gather in the central courtyard to watch as the students wind in and out of the classrooms throughout campus.

~We encourage children to arrive in costume since there will be little time to change prior to the parade.

~Students should bring a change of clothes to school; costumes can become a distraction or uncomfortable throughout the day.

~The parade at TBS includes young children. Guidelines for costumes are straightforward:

  • Please, no masks, weapons or violence.
  • Please make sure face-paint is not too scary for younger students.
  • Characters from history or literature are strongly encouraged, as are those that are fun and just plain wacky.
  • Please also be mindful of messages about different cultures when considering costumes.

~Candy, gum, or sugary treats should be reserved for Halloween night, and should not come to school on or around Halloween.

Book orders are due tomorrow (Wednesday, October 12), so please bring in forms and checks, or order online before then.
