We wrapped up 2016 with a Celebration of Learning where we presented our published expository essay pieces; sang holiday songs; and enjoyed an amazing, festive, and delicious potluck! We really appreciated spending quality time with families before winter break and showcasing the Temescalian’s hard work.
Third grade scientists brought home their Borox crystal “snowflakes” after observing them. We learned about how real snowflakes form and why they almost always have six branches. Julianne demonstrated how to create scientifically accurate pipe cleaner snowflakes for growing the crystals on and then we placed them in the Borox and hot water solution. Crystals began to form almost immediately! We also read Snowflake Bentley and learned about the farmer scientist in Vermont who was the first to photograph snowflakes and document their unique designs.
Letters were written to wish happy holidays to members of our community. Temescal writers who had finished their other work were busy elves writing and delivering letters around TBS.
We definitely worked hard and played hard last year . . .
Temescalians sang a New Year song they have been working on in music in front of the whole school!
Birthday celebrations are always a special time to learn about and connect with Temescalians and their families.
We created a book of appreciations and gifted it to our Temescalian who had his last day with us before moving to Australia. We miss him and his whole family!
Homework will start next week! Watch for a homework packet with an introductory letter going home next Monday.
