We are enjoying getting back into the regular routine after our break. Please check your emails to sign up for conferences next Thursday and Friday and for on-site childcare if needed. There will be no school those days: March 9 and 10.

We can’t believe this month is wrapping up and March is upon us! Here is a look back at our jam-packed February . . .

The 100th Day of school started off with a gallery walk of our 1,000s Projects based on four local ecosystems: bay, wetlands, grasslands, and woodlands. Parents and students from other grades walked through and were impressed by the creativity and big math involved. Later that day Temescalians also presented their projects one-by-one in front of the rest of the class using the projector and took questions and appreciations. To celebrate the 100th day we also wrote what it might be like to be 100 years old, what we would do with $100 dollars, and then we predicted how much of a jar 100 drops of water would fill and then scientifically checked the results.

Third graders also had the opportunity to visit kindergarten and the 1/2 classes to see the 100s projects on display . . .

In math we continued our study of measurement and perimeter. We incorporated our fraction knowledge to break up inches into quarters for accuracy. We also figured our how to estimate meters with our bodies and tried it out around the classroom.

In science we have been learning about the properties of water and observing how it interacts with various materials. This tied into our study of the layers of the atmosphere and Julianne started is off on a Super Science/Art project creating the layers in chalk pastel.

The week before Valentine’s Day we celebrated Friendship Week where we showered Secret Pal’s with attention and practiced random acts of kindness. For the big reveal we read appreciations about our mysterious Secret Pal and presented them with a cookie decorated especially for him/her. For Valentine’s Day we decorated special bags to receive card deliveries.

Our field trip to Zellerbach Hall to see the Seven Finger troop perform Cuisine and Confessions was thrilling and innovative! Thanks again to the parent volunteers who went along with us and also really enjoyed the show.

For grammar we wrote different types of sentences (statement, exclamation, question, and command) on white boards and shared them with each other. Such funny and creative third graders we have! Then we tried to incorporate all four types into our Rocket Writing that day.

Other snapshots in and around Temescal Creek . . .

Looking ahead . . .
