INTERSECTIONS: constellations of young artists seeking change through art
Opening Reception – Thursday February 7, 6:00-8:00p

Julianne Hughes, ECC-5 Teaching Artist

We hope you will join us at the All School Art Show opening on Thursday, February 7, 6:00-8:00p at the University Avenue Campus! Students, ECC-8th, have been working thoughtfully and creatively to put on a show that shares the art-making, process learning, art history study, innovation, inspiration, and civic engagement that happens every day in the art studio.

Temescal Creek students have been studying artists who integrate a Text-in-Art technique into their work as well as artists who combine science & art. We looked at artwork by Robert Indiana, one of America’s preeminent “pop” artists, best known for his LOVE painting. On exhibit during next week’s show will be a large-scale 3D sculpture they created called “JOY” that encourages gallery goers to offer and take prompts that lead to joy.

As part of an art and science collaboration, Temescal students undertook the task of a growing a sculpture we’re calling “SEEDS” inspired by artists Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey. Ackroyd and Harvey are British visual artists who combine ecology, architecture, sculpture, and photography.

Continuing with art/science and communication, students are also creating a string & paper cup “Telephone” interactive piece that encourages listening & talking.

We can’t wait to show you more. Hope to see you on Thursday!

Looking forward,
Julianne Hughes
